Lord Turner advices government to extend CCS technology to gas-fired stations

Lord Turner, the chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, has advised the UK government to extend carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology from coal-fired plants to gas-powered stations.

Carbon capture and storage technology was brought in by previous government to fir up to four new coal-powered stations to cut emissions from fossil fuels.

The report prepared by the Committee has also warned that Britain could miss its carbon reduction targets if it doesn’t fit gas-fired power stations with carbon capture and storage technology.

Larry King to Host a Show to Collect Funds for Oil Spill

On Monday, Larry king will be anchoring a celebrity telethon. The duration of the show will be two hours and the purpose is to gather funds for the victims of oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

CNN revealed that the name of the show is "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help" and it will feature many celebrities like Deepak Chopra, Tim McGraw, Cameron Diaz, Kathy Griffin, Lenny Kravitz and Justin Beiber. Sting is also slated to perform on the show.

The online version of the show will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest of "American Idol's" fame. He is also Mr. King's friend.

On Sunday a new reality show series will start on Showtime. The name of the series is "The Real L Word ".The show is a follow up of another show broadcasted by the network earlier, called "The L Word". This show was broadcasted from 2004-2009 and it depicted the lives of lesbians in an overt way.

The Creator of the show, Ilene Chaikin, revealed that she was continuously confronted with questions regarding the reality of the show. People were keen on knowing whether lesbians really behaved in the manner depicted on the show.

Senators Promote Casinos in Massachusetts

Senators in Massachusetts are trying to find support for their plans to legalize three casinos in the state. They argue these steps will help generate revenues worth $1.8 billion every year, apart from creating 14,000 permanent jobs.

Voters Still Don’t Know the Candidates

Many voters are still unfamiliar about the candidates. Melony Fronckel of Potterville shared that though she is planning to vote but she doesn't know the issues or the candidates. One Lansing resident, being Republican, plans on voting along party lines, but he is not familiar with the candidates in his party.

About 65% of Democratic voters don't know Lansing's Mayor, Virg Bernero outside of mid-Michigan, according to an exclusive News 10 Voice of the Voter poll. As a matter of fact, about 51% of those same voters don't know the House Speaker, Andy Dillon.

Paterson Proposes Additional $1.60 to the Cost of Pack of Cigarettes

Under a plan to close the budget gap that was advanced by Gov. David A. Paterson on Friday evening, an additional $1.60 will be added to the cost of a pack of cigarettes and tobacco taxes, will be collected from Indian tribes. Legislation will be submitted by Mr. Paterson to lawmakers, under which the state's cigarette tax will be raised by 60 cents a pack more than the increase, previously considered.

Board Approves 5% Fee Hike for California State University

In a Board meeting, held in Long Beach, on Friday, it was announced that the proposed 5% fee rise for undergraduate students for this session has been approved by the California State University trustees.

The board members voted for the increase and the results were 10 to 2, this implies that students will have to pay $204 more for the full-time courses. This accounts to total university fee of $4,230 for the 2010-2011 academic session. If the fees, that every campus charges accordingly, the total fee for undergraduates elevated to $5,097, excluding the housing or books costs.

MJ’s Memorial Receives $1m as Contribution from Promoter of Unfortunate Concert
